Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

This large public garden is in the busy downtown district of Shinjuku. Covering 58.3 hectares, it started life as the grounds of a feudal lord (Daimyo) back in 1590. To put it in perspective, Melbourne's Royal Botanical Gardens covers 38 hectares.
